July 15, 2008 - Canada's first Master of Information Management Program
CASLIS Ottawa invites you to an information session with Fiona Black, Director of the School of Information Management at Dalhousie University. Dr. Black will be speaking about Canada's first Master of Information Management (MIM) program.

June 26, 2008 - Library Benchmarks and Trends
Karen Wilson, Outsell, Inc. will be presenting "Library Benchmarks and Trends." The presentation will include data from Outsell's Information Management Benchmark study and will also include a brief overview of Outsell services.

June 18, 2008 - RDA - Resource Description and Access
RDA, Resource Description and Access, is the new content standard for metadata, which will be released in 2009 and implemented in 2010. RDA brings a new perspective to resource description and access. A key aspect of RDA is its alignment with the FRBR/FRAD conceptual models (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records and Functional Requirements for Authority Data). The session will demonstrate how this alignment shapes RDA's goals and structure, and it will focus on the aspects of RDA that distinguish it from its predecessor, AACR2. The session will also address preparation for implementation.

Hear from Tom Delsey discuss what RDA (Resource Description and Access) is, how it will differ from AACR, and what cataloguers and managers will need to know to implement the new standard.

February 21, 2007 — Making the "Business Case"
Whether it's a request to attend a conference, the acquisition of a new online service, or plans to join a consortium, library staff are more and more expected to be able to produce a "business case", or rationale, for the proposed expenditure or effort. Maggie Weaver will take us through the research necessary to construct a business case, including cost benefits and finding local champions for the cause; suggestions for structuring an effective request for funding, either in writing or orally; and tips for the actual words used -- focusing on the goals of your organization and speaking in the language of your audience.
