Librarians and Consultants:
How to get the most of the

Join seasoned librarian/consultants Ruth MacEachern and Cheryl MacLennan in a conversational session on working with
consultants. When is it best to hire consultants? How do you need to prepare the paperwork? How does one select the
right consultant? Government librarians will want to hear about procurement, statements of work and other obligations.
Those outside of government may have similar policies that require attention during the selection process which will
also be addressed.
Hear how Ruth and Cheryl suggest an effective working relationship with your consultant once hired And finally, learn
how to say good bye and get the report and consult you really want and need!

About the speakers
Ruth MacEachern is a seasoned information practitioner with over 20 years experience in the management of knowledge
and information resources in both Canada and New Zealand, in both the public and private sectors. Ruth has worked
for several Canadian federal government departments, and for a short time worked overseas in New Zealand where she
served as Parliamentary Librarian. In 2002, she returned to Ottawa to join CGI's Management Consulting practice as
a senior consultant.
Cheryl MacLennan has spent most of her career working in federal and private libraries. In the latter 1990's she
worked in sales and library system development for two Ottawa-based vendors. Cheryl began her career in library and
information management consulting in 2000. Since then she has worked as an independent consultant on a broad range
of library and information management related projects.
Both Ruth and Cheryl are graduates of Dalhousie University's School of Library & Information Studies Programme.
