RDA, Resource Description and Access, is the new content standard for metadata, which will be released in 2009 and implemented in 2010. RDA brings a new perspective to resource description and access. A key aspect of RDA is its alignment with the FRBR/FRAD conceptual models (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records and Functional Requirements for Authority Data). The session will demonstrate how this alignment shapes RDA's goals and structure, and it will focus on the aspects of RDA that distinguish it from its predecessor, AACR2. The session will also address preparation for implementation.

Speaker
Christine Oliver is the Chair of the Canadian Committee on Cataloguing (CCC) and of the RDA Outreach Group. She has been a member of CCC since 1997, and the Chair since 1999. This has given her the opportunity to be involved with the evolution of RDA from its early beginnings in the outcomes of the 1997 Toronto Conference (International Conference on the Principles & Future development of AACR), through its stage as "AACR3" and its development into RDA. Chris has worked at the McGill University Library since 1989 as a cataloguing librarian and cataloguing manager; she is currently Cataloguing Supervisor.
